Coming from over a decade of experience working in steel mills and power generation as an electrical engineer, our greatest sense of accomplishment has been achieved when something we produced helped make the job of someone else easier. The greatest success comes from spending time with the end user of a piece of software or heavy equipment and seeing where their “pain points” are in executing their task. The greatest compliment recieved has been “Hey, that thing you did worked so well. When are you going to do that same improvement in this other area?” Success involves first, listening to what people are telling you they need, and second, the willingness to get into the fine details to get to the bottom of an issue. True engineering is not an instant process. It still requires old fashioned work to get it done right.

One lesson, among many, we learned early on from the old timers during our career in steel mills, “There’s never enough time to do something right, but there’s always time to do it over again!” We’ve grown to embrace the wisdom of following through with a task all the way to the “boring” end. Another lesson we’ve taken to heart over the years is “A well planned job is a boring one. And boring is good!” That is the goal on every job we approach. Though proper documentation and planning, the execution phase of our projects is typically completed with very little surprises.
